Here are updated tips on maintaining your Persian carpet:

  1. Vacuuming: Vacuum regularly with a regular vacuum cleaner, avoiding brushes or beater bars. Clean the carpet in any direction, but make sure to end in the natural direction of the nap. Avoid vacuuming the fringes and edges.

  2. Airing: Air out the carpet occasionally by opening windows and doors to prevent mould and insect damage.

  3. Rotating: Turn the carpet around periodically to prevent uneven fading from sunlight and to distribute wear evenly.

  4. Spot cleaning: In case of a spill or stain, act quickly to prevent color run. First, pour a moderate amount of plain water on the spot and scoop up as much as possible with a spoon. Repeat the process a few times. If necessary, apply a small amount of hair shampoo to the spot and rub gently with your fingers or a soft brush, then repeat the pouring and scooping process. For more drastic cleaning, consult a professional, especially for delicate rugs such as silk or antique ones.

  5. Keeping dry: Avoid exposing the carpet to water and moisture, and act quickly in case of spills to prevent color run.

  6. Drying: If the carpet is wet, lay it flat on the floor for air flow. Do not hang the carpet as it may cause color run.

  7. Fringes: Handle the fringes of the carpet delicately and protect them from exposure to floor cleaning materials. Dust them off gently with a soft brush. For new rugs, loose bits of fiber may shed, but they will disappear with proper vacuuming.

  8. Aesthetic care: To restore the brightness of the colors in hand-made rugs, gently stroke the surface with a solution of white vinegar diluted in water.

  9. Smell: A woolly smell from storage may disappear after a few days of use and ventilation.

  10. Storage: Store the carpet in a dry, clean, well-ventilated place protected from sunlight. Roll it up with the pile inside, pack it with mothballs, and keep it in a vertical position.

  11. Non-slip material: Place a non-slip material under the carpet for stability and to prevent slipping, especially on wooden or marble floors.

  12. Washing: Have the carpet professionally washed once every 1-2 years, depending on usage and environment.
